After two yearly instalments, Country Thunder's Iowa leg has been cancelled. Fans were hopeful that the festival might return for a third event in 2023, but officials have confirmed that prelimary plans for this have been scrapped.

Country Thunder hosts a number of festivals across the US in states such as Florida, Saskatchewan, Wisconsin and more. In 2020, Iowa's country music fanbase was supposed to enjoy its first Country Thunder festival, but due to the pandemic, this was postponed until 2021.

After this false start, the 2021 and 2022 events saw performances from a suite of high-profile artists. The 2021 line-up featured acts such as Kane Brown, Parker McCollum, Lynyrd Skynyrd, HARDY, Old Dominion, Meghan Patrick, The Cadillac Three and more.

Visitors to 2022's Country Thunder Iowa enjoyed sets from two-time 2022 CMA Award winner, Lainey Wilson, along with the likes of Lee Brice, Trace Adkins, Kip Moore, Chris Young, Travis Tritt and Lindsay Ell.

However, despite the strong line-ups, the Iowa festival has not proven popular enough to warrant its continuation. Forest City was home to both the 2021 and 2022 Country Thunder Iowa festivals, and its Mayor, Ron Holland, expressed his disappointment at the news. He underlined that the move had been made primarily as a result of low attendance figures, and that he was working to substitute Country Thunder Iowa with another Festival City-based festival.

While Forest City searches for a replacement, Country Thunder's other events continue to produce star-studded line-ups. Headliners were recently announced for Country Thunder Wisconsin and Country Thunder Florida, both of which will feature artists such as Cody Johnson, Keith Urban and more.
